Varieties of Navel Oranges
Navel Oranges come in different sizes, colors, and flavors. They come in small, medium, and large sizes, are available in orange and pink colors, and are extremely sweet and rich in flavor. Some Navel Oranges even have a twist berry taste.
Which one is a Navel?
There are numerous orange cultivars like Blood Oranges, Honeybell Oranges, and even Clementine Oranges, available during winter season alongside Navels. There are also summer Valencia Oranges which can hold a candle against Navels. So how do you know you got the right orange?
Navel Oranges are easy to spot because of the tell-tale navel-like formation you can find on the end of the fruit, opposite the stem end. This indentation is an undeveloped twin of the larger fruit which never split off. No other orange has this unique characteristic so you can be sure that once you see a bellybutton on an orange, it is a Navel Orange.
Why Navel?
Among the many oranges we may choose from, Navel Oranges are one of the absolute favorites for all time. Why? Because Naval Oranges have an appetizing aroma which is a combination of citrus and floral scents, they have a deep orange color that is easy to peel, plus they are wonderfully juicy. What’s more, Oranges Navels are seedless and extremely sweet with notably less acid than other sweet oranges.
Besides eating them fresh out of hand you may also use Navel Oranges to make smoothies, as an ingredient in numerous meat dishes, and you may also toss them in a salad to add flavor and color. Like Oranges Valencia, Navel Oranges may be used for baking cakes and making pastries, for making marmalades, and also for marinades.
A Different Navel
If you like Navels, imagine their sweet and juicy flavor in a citrus bright rich pink flesh. If such a fruit sounds amazing to you, then you should know about Cara Cara Oranges.
The seedless Cara Cara Oranges are just like your regular Navels if you look at them from the outside. But once you cut one open, you will be tantalized by the sweet smell of the fruit and the amazing pink-to-red pulp caused by the natural presence of lycopene in the fruit. To make it even better, Cara Cara Oranges have more vitamin A and C than other Navels.
January to April is the season for Oranges Cara Cara.
Oranges
Other must-try oranges are Honeybell Oranges and Tangerines. Make sure to pre-order orange boxes filled with premium Honeybell Oranges before the season begins. They usually go out of stock right away once the harvest season starts due to the high volume of orders and their limited availability.
