How to Make Your Own Grapefruit Lip Balm
Winter is coming, and grapefruit can help save your lips from becoming dry and chapped in the cold and wet weather. You don't have to pay high prices for lip balm at the store. You can easily make your own all natural lip balm with refreshing and great smelling ingredients like grapefruit. Even if you've never made any of your own bath and body products you can make lip balm with a few simple ingredients. Once you've tried using your own lip balm you'll never want to use commercial lip balm again. You can also make up batches of homemade grapefruit lip balm for your friends and family. It's a great inexpensive gift that is always well received. To make your grapefruit lip balm at home you'll need:
Sweet Almond Oil – This is a common ingredient in many natural bath and body products. It has a delicious smell and acts as both an emollient and a preservative. You can find Sweet Almond Oil at any natural foods store or you can buy it online. It's not very expensive and usually you can get a large size bottle of it for around ten dollars.
Beeswax Pearls – Melted beeswax pearls will be the base of the lip balm. You can order these from a bath and beauty supply company or you can simply melt down some all natural, untreated beeswax candles. Just make sure the candles have no additives, scents, or chemical treatments of any kind. Beeswax pearls are very inexpensive and usually come in large quantities so you can make a lot of lip balm.
Grapefruit – Fresh grapefruit juice added to the beeswax will help keep your lips plump and healthy as well as giving the lip balm a delicious taste. You can add other flavors as well, such as some fresh orange juice, but adding fresh grapefruit juice will give your lip balm a shot of antioxidants that will make your lips look and feel soft, full, and healthy.
A container – You can re-use a lip balm container you already have or buy some from a bath and beauty supply company. You can choose from several different styles and colors so get creative and have some fun with it! Custom labels are also a nice touch.
To make grapefruit lip balm melt the beeswax in a double burner or in a pan that is sitting inside another pan filled with boiling water. When the wax is liquid add enough Sweet Almond Oil to stabilize the wax as a liquid. Then pour in the grapefruit juice and remove from heat and pour into the container. Once it cools it will harden into all natural grapefruit lip balm. Experiment with different juices, like tangerine juice, to make your own exotic flavors.
