Grapefruits are delicious, but they are more than just another tasty fruit. Grapefruit can be used to cure many ailments that plague people every day but aren't serious enough to require a doctor's visit. Grapefruit, like many other natural foods and plants, can be used alone or with other natural elements to provide home remedies for many complaints. It's a smart idea to make sure that you always have some grapefruits, oranges, and lemons in the kitchen because they can be used for so many different things. From cleaning the house to keeping the skin healthy to curing common health problems citrus fruit really can do it all, and do it naturally. Here is a quick overview of some of the common problems that grapefruit can cure:
High acidity – Do you suffer from heartburn frequently? Eat at least one grapefruit per day to bring down the amount of acid that your body is producing. The acidity of the fruit will actually counter the amount of acid being produced by the body and make your body produce less acid, which will result in less heartburn.
Diarrhea, bowel inflammation and other digestive disorders – Citrus fruits like grapefruit have a lot of fiber, which can firm up loose stools and eliminate digestive trouble. In developing countries grapefruits are often used to protect people from dysentery, typhus, and other problems that can result from drinking dirty water or eating spoiled food. If you have a tendency towards digestive upsets and problems you should make sure that you always have some grapefruit in the house. You may also want to keep a grapefruit or two in your car or desk drawer at work in case you have an attack of digestive upset outside the home.
Fever – Grapefruit juice is a natural fever cure. While it won't completely eliminate the fever it can keep you from getting dehydrated and give your body a boost of vitamins and minerals to help your body fight off the fever. Grapefruit juice should always be given along with a fever reducer when someone in your family has a fever. If you have a fever drink at least one glass of grapefruit juice every few hours to prevent your body from becoming dehydrated.
Fatigue – The vitamins and minerals in grapefruit juice can help energize you after a long day. They can also help people who suffer from chronic fatigue but need to function during the day. Mix lemon juice and grapefruit juice in equal parts and drink that when you need a boost.
