If one of your resolutions this year was to get fit it's time to get going. No more excuses! You can get started right now with something you probably already have in your kitchen. Tasty and nutritious grapefruit is very healthy, tastes delicious, and has less than 100 calories per fruit. Using grapefruit in your cooking is a great way to sweeten your dishes naturally and add a healthy boost of vitamins and minerals to whatever you're making.

If you use a sweet variety of grapefruit you can make delicious desserts that have very few calories. The fiber in the fruit will make you full so you won't feel the urge to snack, and the natural sugars in the grapefruit are easy for your body to breakdown and use as fuel. Next time you're dealing with a craving for sweet food but don't want to ruin your healthy diet whip up one of these grapefruit treats and keep your diet on track:

Grapefruit smoothie- Smoothies can be very satisfying snacks that also are very healthy. Instead of using water in your smoothie use grapefruit juice. It will add a burst of citrus flavor, give you more vitamins and minerals, and the enzymes in grapefruit juice can actually kick start the weight loss process in your body. Just make sure that the other ingredients in the smoothie are healthy fruit and low fat yogurt, not sugar and ice cream or other high calorie ingredients.

Grapefruit sorbet – When you want the smooth texture and sweet taste of ice cream but don't want the extra fat and calories make a healthy sorbet instead. Just boil together freshly squeezed grapefruit juice with natural sugar until it forms a simple syrup. When the mixture has a thick but not gummy consistency pour it into a pre-chilled container and refrigerate it for a few hours. When it has the consistency of a slush it's ready to eat. If the mixture becomes too thick while boiling pour in more juice.

Grapefruit popsicles – These frozen treats are perfect for when you want a little something sweet but don't have a lot of time. Buy some plastic popsicle molds from any discount or housewares store. Juice some fresh grapefruits and pour the juice into the molds. Let them freeze and you have healthy grapefruit juice popsicles with no added sugar. Each pop has the same low amount of calories as a glass of fresh grapefruit juice.
