grapefruit29.jpgGetting your family to eat healthy foods, like grapefruit, can be tough. Kids often want cookies or chips or other snacks and turn up their noses at the idea of healthy grapefruit or oranges. Other adults in the household may prefer coffee or a snack from the vending machine at work to fruit as an afternoon snack. Just buying healthy grapefruit and citrus fruit isn't enough to make your family eat that fruit. If you're trying to get the kids and other adults in your household to eat more healthy fruit here are some ideas gathered from all over the country to help you find ways to get your own family to eat the fruit you by:

Dress it up – Kids may not want to eat a half of a grapefruit with their breakfast, but if you make grapefruit compote and serve it on pancakes or waffles they will probably love it. Save time by using frozen waffles or pre-made pancakes. You can also make the compote a day in advance and just reheat it in a pan just before serving to make sure it's nice and warm. Grapefruit compote is a delicious treat on cold winter mornings. You can also make a punch for the kids to drink after school instead of letting them drink sugary sodas. Make a grapefruit punch and store it in the fridge as an everyday beverage. Your family will love it and they will be getting some healthy grapefruit at the same time.

Make it dessert – Instead of just serving grapefruit at breakfast try making grapefruit desserts so that your family will want to eat grapefruit. Grapefruit sorbet is an easy to make frozen treat that is wonderful during the warm summer months. Grapefruit cupcakes with cream cheese frosting are a delicious winter treat. If you want to make a low calorie dessert try making a simple citrus fruit salad with fresh grapefruit segments, orange segments, and some seasonal berries. Dress with citrus juice and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. If your family wants more to eat than a simple fruit salad serve the salad over some homemade shortcake to make the dessert a little heartier. Grilled grapefruit with sugar is also a great dessert and snack that can be served anytime. Once you make grapefruit an anytime food instead of a breakfast food your family will be much more likely to eat it and enjoy it.
