More Than Just a Grapefruit

From the moment we were old enough to understand things, we've been told to eat our fruits and veggies. Over the years the government got into the act and put forth the idea that we need to have at least five servings a day. If we followed that recommendation, it would mean eating a couple of pieces of fruit, a salad and a side of green beans every day for a start. That's a lot to take in. Typically, we might just skip the salad and just grab a piece of fruit on the go. If you're just going to have one piece of fruit, you can't go wrong with a grapefruit.
A grapefruit is chock full of vitamin C, fiber, potassium and calcium. When you add it all together, that one grapefruit is going to help you rebuild cells, lower your cholesterol, fight cancer, reduce inflammation, break a fever and help your digestion. You would think that's enough for one piece of fruit but technically, a grapefruit is so much more.
As with many other fruits, folks have discovered many alternative uses for grapefruit for outside the body. Women have discovered that the citrus acid properties in grapefruit can act as a natural hair stripper. If you rinse your hair with grapefruit juice you'll be able to strip away all those chemicals and conditioners that have been piled onto the follicles. The result will be a head of hair that feels soft and silky. The grapefruit juice can also strip away any type of product like hairsprays or gels that you've put in your hair. Because it's natural, the grapefruit juice won't damage your hair.
If you'd like to consider highlighting your hair or giving it a lighter overall tone, then grapefruit juice can do the trick. It might sound silly but step out into the sunlight and spritz your hair with the grapefruit juice. Wait until it dries and you'll notice a lighter look where the grapefruit juice was sprayed on. It's not permanent and smells great!
The next time you take a bath, add a couple of cups of grapefruit juice to the warm water. As you sink into the suds, the citric acid will help exfoliate your skin. You'll dry off with a fresh and smooth epidermis.
How about grapefruit for the feet? Turns out you can smooth out those dry, cracked heels and feet. All you need to do is soak your feet in a tub of warm water with some added grapefruit juice or even the whole slices added into the mix. Once again, that luxurious citric acid will go to work on your skin and soften up the rough edges. Perfect for sandal wearers!
And who doesn't appreciate a rejuvenating facial? Try this recipe: drop a half of grapefruit, skin and all, into a blender along with some milk and sugar. Blend it up then pop it into the microwave for a little heat. Stir it all together until you've got mixture that's a bit like pancake batter. Now gently apply it to your face and let it set for a couple of minutes. Then rinse off. You'll discover your skin has a fresh glow and feels great!
